St. Louis Blues Fire Craig Berube As Head Coach

Blues Now Searching for New Head Coach

The St. Louis Blues have fired head coach Craig Berube after a disappointing start to the 2022-23 season. Berube, who led the Blues to their first Stanley Cup championship in 2019, was relieved of his duties on Tuesday night following the team's 6-4 loss to the Detroit Red Wings.

Berube, 58, had been the Blues' head coach since 2018. He compiled a record of 153-136-45 in that span, including a 16-8 playoff record in 2019 when the Blues won the Stanley Cup. However, the Blues have struggled in recent seasons, missing the playoffs in 2021 and currently sitting in last place in the Central Division this season.

The Blues have named assistant coach Drew Bannister as their interim head coach. Bannister, 53, has been with the Blues since 2017 and has served as an assistant coach under Berube for the past two seasons. He has no prior head coaching experience at the NHL level.

The Blues are now searching for a new head coach, and they are expected to cast a wide net in their search. Several potential candidates could be available, including former Blues coach Mike Yeo, current Toronto Maple Leafs assistant coach Spencer Carbery, and former Florida Panthers coach Joel Quenneville.

The Blues' next game is on Thursday night against the Minnesota Wild. It will be interesting to see how the team responds to Berube's firing and whether they can turn their season around under Bannister.
