Historical Significance
The Dragon Boat Festival, also known as the Duanwu Festival, commemorates the life and death of the Chinese poet and scholar, Qu Yuan, who drowned himself in the Miluo River in 278 BC.
Traditions and Customs
During the festival, people enjoy dragon boat races, eat zongzi (glutinous rice dumplings), and participate in other traditional customs such as the eye-dotting ceremony to awaken the spirit of the dragon boats.
